“The Great Canadian Giving Challenge” starts TODAY!
The Canada Helps organization is sponsoring “The Great Canadian Giving Challenge” during the month of June.
This is an opportunity for donors to support a registered charitable organization that is making a difference in the lives of individuals with various special needs…giving them the opportunity to play the game they love…HOCKEY!
The Kawartha Komets Special Needs Hockey Program…
Our History:
Carol Fisher, our founder, launched the Kawartha Komets Special Needs Hockey Program in April 2009 to bring "special needs hockey" to the City of Peterborough and the surrounding area. Her dream was to offer girls, boys, teens and adults with physical, emotional and/or neurodevelopmental challenges an opportunity to play the game they love...HOCKEY.
Carol sought and received endorsements for the program from the local MPP, Jeff Leal, Colleen Ristock from Five Counties Children's Centre and the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League.
The team was formed in the Fall of 2009 and just completed its 7th season with three teams and 65 players. The Kawartha Komets provide a safe, inclusive environment where every player gets equal ice time. Parents and caregivers share their joys and struggles and find strength and encouragement from each other. The Kawartha Komets often provide partial scholarships for players who can't afford the very reasonably priced registration fee. The Komets also provide equipment for players when needed.
As a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (Charitable # 801414939 RR0001) our Board of Directors seeks to operate this program with professionalism, integrity and transparency. We will make our financial statements available to any prospective donor, family or interested individual. We believe that you, our donors, families and prospective donors have every right to view our finances.
As we are registered charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency donors can make a donation directly to the Kawartha Komets or you can donate through the Canada Helps organization online using a credit card.
The Canada Helps organization is sponsoring “The Great Canadian Giving Challenge” during the month of June. For every dollar donated to the Kawartha Komets during this campaign we will get another entry in a contest to win $10,000 from Canada Helps.
