Kawartha Komets & Special Olympics Ontario School Championships

The last few days have been a flurry of activity for Special Olympians here in Peterborough for the Special Olympics Ontario School Championships. Many of our Kawartha Komets players, siblings and alumni were involved and many won medals. I've attached photos taken by some of our Komets parents and some that I took at the very impressive Opening Ceremonies on Tuesday evening. 

CONGRATULATIONS to all these incredible athletes. Participants included a parent - Robert Krueger (volunteer), parent - Andrew Snead (volunteer), parents - Tom McHugh and Cathy Flindall (volunteers with closing ceremonies and dance), parent - Elaine Oakes (volunteer - registration and closing ceremonies), sibling Courtney Clark, alumni Komets, Tyson Ham, Megan Chatterton, Brianna Middleton, David Moorcroft and Gabe McDonald and current Komets players Brandon Vansickle (officiating in floor hockey and Honourary DJ with Much Music), Karim Elmedany, Spencer Knapton-Oakes, Justin Monk, Miriam & Gillian McHugh, Ashlee & Amber Woods-Armstrong, Jesse Campbell (volunteering as a floor hockey officicial) and Quinten Over (volunteering as a floor hockey time keeper).  We just found out that Matthew Ludlow was a last-minute addition to a basketball team.

Karim Elmedany, Gillian and Miriam McHugh - Gold Medal for Holy Cross floor hockey - Unified division

Spencer Knapton-Oakes - Gold Medal for Adam Scott CVI basketball

Courtney Clark - Holy Cross - Gold medal for long jump, Gold medal for shotput, Silver medal for 50 meter race, Silver medal for 100 meter race.  

Amber Woods-Armstrong - Holy Cross - Silver medal for standing long jump, Silver medal for shotput

Ashlee Woods-Armstrong - Gold Medal for Holy Cross Floor hockey
